vw trends dyno tests
Golde60 - January 26th, 2003 at 05:28 PM

anyone out there read the latest issue of vw trends? the one with the green ragtop on the cover.
i am curious/sceptical about the hp readings that these guys are claiming on their dyno tests. you will note that the readings were all at the rear wheels. 1776 with 44 webers, engle 120 cam and 7.5 cr is 94hp at the wheels. this seems too good to me.
two others that stood out were a pair of 2276s claiming 175+.
one had 8.6cr, the other 12.5 (wow that thing must glow red hot)
do the yanks measure hp the same as us?
are these impressive fugures beleivable?

Bizarre - January 26th, 2003 at 07:42 PM

yeah but that 1776 also had 48 IDA's on it. Never really told what the heads were
"worked" 044's from memory)

Hey - - these guys are from DKA or somethong - creme de'la creme (is that how you spell it?)
These guys spend on there dakkies waht me and you spend on a Sydney house combined.

Just read and enjoy it - the "real" figures will be posted in a weeks time.
Jako has a 1880

DKP cars look nice, I’ll give them that, but if they’re so cashed up, why wasn’t anyone running Nickies?

The bus and the injected car (that didn’t do too well) and a 2007 (that only got a few lines mention) were the only three I found interesting. The rest fit into the old technology GRENADE category; high compressions, rod ratios in the 1.6’s, huge displacements, no air filters and drag strip cams. (apologies if your car is like that, just my conservative opinion);)

Also the car featured in HotVWs magazine special engine issue fell 50hp short of their claim several years ago. VWTrends say it wasn’t tuned properly, I differ, I think its because it is a grenade and the pin already fell out. :P

All the (normally aspirated) graphs show a hole between 3 and 4k rpm. I guess this is before the cam kicks in?

I’m first in for next year’s Sydney dyno day, and I can’t wait for the results of this one.:bounce

heh yeah i have heard it idle, its nice. I havent heard it on heat but with just the dual 45 dells joey found it too loud (it sounded somewhat a bit like a harley). And he created some tubing which fed it from a common pod filter.

shiftyvw - January 28th, 2003 at 07:30 PM

I think the hole in the power is due to the lack of progression on the ida's.

Golde60 - January 28th, 2003 at 07:39 PM

good to hear some feedback that reflects my own sentiments.
i thought that some of these cars would be impracticle and difficult to drive.
but i was jealous as hell at how much power they were making.

wonder how long they last.

looking forward to the dyno day too.
