1966 VW the power and the problem
Dub-Buggier - December 18th, 2004 at 08:03 AM

I rescued a 1966 VW Bug and incredibly after it sat long enough to rust out the floor and total full restoration chances for the car I ripped off the top threw in some beetlejuice, hooked on some jumper leads and wella she crackled back into life. The problem is now that the passenger side drive out of the gearbox is supposed to be stuffed, I haven’t had time to pull it out yet tho. I thought the VW boxes were supposed to be near unbreakable so I was wondering if anyone else has had any problems with the drives or a general pricing on a kombi box.
Cheers to all in the silly season.
Dave.

It must have been abused rather well to do damage to a swing axle as they are nearly unbreakable with oil in the gearbox and a standard engine....

Maybe the brakes have seized on one side or the rubber boot has disappeared [disintergrated] adn there is no oil in it...
Try it first.... Best of Luck...

finally had some time to spend some time on it between dozer rebuilds and they spin right thru properly. when i got it the guy just said the drive out the passenger side was KA-POOT but now i have had a desent look i an more thinking it would be the clutch having some headaches.

cheers all for the silly season.
