fitting a 12v fly into a 6v box????

fitting a 12v fly into a 6v box, after grinding out the box what is required and can the 6v starter still be used? where can i find the parts needed if i need to?

Would love to know this too, I will probably be putting a 12v 1300 engine into my 6v '60 and need to know how to do it. Maybe I should look into buying the gearbox with the engine?

Once you grind the bellhousing out, you also need to change the starter bush over to run the 12V starter...its not the same as a 12V starter bush tho....it has the OD of a 6V bush and the ID of a 12V bush then all the 12V gear will work

thanks so do i have to grind around the entire inside diameter of the bellhousing where the fly wheel sits or just the high spots where the bolts go through, i appreciate all advise so i dont f@#k it up thanks

theres about 4 spots that you have to clearance, they are the ribs on the four corners. best to get the tranny and engine out and trial fit them and see where they rub.

the special bushing is called a conversion bushing.

you can use a 6v starter on 12v, it'll run extra fast but its best to use a 12v starter for longevity

but you will have to keep the 6v flywheel to do this

????so how do i keep the 12v flywheel?, it came with the motor and has been lightened so i dont want to change it.
do i just change the bush and put in a 12v starter? then should it be ok?

oh yeah forgot that. a 6v starter will only work with a 6v flywheel and same with 12v.

A fellow in the US told Me that He just bolted in the 200mm 12v flywheel and when the engine was turned over, the Ring gear on the flywheel just cuts into the soft alloy and did the job itself... You don't tighten the bolts up at first...
You do them up a bit at a time... after turning the engine over with the starter motor... and it self cuts into the alloy...
sounds simple... If You feel the teeth on the ring gear, the edges are rather sharp.... a good cutting tool :):)
