Hi All:
My name’s Norm and I live near Cairns, FNQ. I’m building an aircraft engine based on a Type-1 crankcase. I’m at the stage where I need to get
the crankshaft dynamically balanced.
The crankshaft is slightly different. The pulley end is machined for a propeller hub. It has a 3-degree taper and a keyway. The prop hub has a
matching 3-degree taper and keyway. A special long “Pulley bolt” is used to hold the hub in place.
The clutch end has a specially lightened flywheel. Bolted to the centre of the flywheel is a magnetic ring that is part of the alternator and used in
the charging system.
The whole thing (hub, crankshaft, flywheel, and magnetic ring) needs to be bolted together to form a unit and dynamically balanced to a high degree
of precision.
Is there anyone up in my area (FNQ) that can dynamically balance my crankshaft? Perhaps they have balanced Formulae-V or Porsche racing engines -
someone that would put in that extra effort to make it perfect. Any recommendations?
If there is no one up in this area, who would be the closest?
Thanks
Norm
Hi there
