Apparently the guy who put my engine together put the engine seal in upside-down. From the reading I've done it seems this is a pretty important piece in the separation of hot and cool spaces in an aircooled engine.

Anyway it's in the wrong way, so how hard will it be for me to put it back in properly?

there are two types of engine seal early style which has two lips with the tinware sitting inbetween them (its symmetrical in profile so it doesnt matter which way, and late style which is only one lip, and I think it is supposed to be put with the flap under the tinware.

IMHO i think it doesnt matter that much if it is the wrong way round, as long as it's there. More important to make sure there are no gaps.

If it is in the wrong way, you might not even need to remove the engine to fix it. you can just push the seal to the other side around the engine tinware.

Yes, as Jon says, if its upside down... so long as it seals and keeps the hot air underneath....
You can push the edge under the tinware....
so long as it seals....
