Eyelid installation - How To?
ogtool - December 24th, 2004 at 07:45 AM

This is quite possibly one of the stupidest questions ever in the tech section of the site, but, wondering if anyone could give us a hint on how to install our new eyelids onto the headlights. If its required info, the dub in question is a 1970 1500. Eyelids were purchased from Classic VeeDub, dunno exactly what kind. We took the lights out but nowhere we attempted to put said eyelids appeared to work.

TIA.

Have a search in the tech section I think. I had the same problem with some flat-4 ones about a month ago. Solved it with a grinder but there may be a more patient solution. :thumb

ok well you have to dismantle the headlight.
unscrew the reflector bit off the back
then you should be left with the lens and plastic surround clipped into the chrome ring with 4 clips
undo the clips and remove the lens
the eyelid needs to be carefully bent into a smaller curve to fit the later headlight design
the lip on the eyelid may also need to be 'massaged' to fit using pliers to bend it back a bit around the ends
so it should fit into the chrome ring now
refit the lens using the clips but if they wont go on then you may have to clip one or two onto the eyelid lip itself
screw the reflector plate back on
refit the headlight onto the car
adjust headlights so you dont blind others, or so you do, if you wish...

Hehe thanks *did*.

See, we got as far as the realising we had to bend the eye brows bit and figured we were doing something wrong. :D

I will have to give it another shot- or get Craig (ogtool) to so I can blame him when we break them! ;)

Thanks,

Ria.

Yeah its not nice when you have something brand new and before you can even use it you need to bend it and other nasty things :(

Did the eyebrows thing on Boximg day, very simple job and not too much bending at all. Adds to the look, more chrome......
