Ive recently acquired a 1973 microbus. The motor is a pearler but the previous owner told me the automatic is buggered. I can put it into
reverse/neutral and first but it wont change up from first gear. Even using the t-bar!
Does any one have any ideas on what i should do? I have the donk out at the moment. Do i need to take the gearbox out.
just bought a second hand auto from stokers siding complete except for modulator valve which Allen told me were hens teeth. Have you checked all your conections and hoses from the mod. the carbies? PS I'm not an auto expert I've got problems with my own. Tom
Ive been told that it could be the vaccumn unit, which goes to the balance pipe on the exhaust manifolds. The only prob is that i have to refit the donk to test it!!!!I hope ot works. I suspect that the hose was diconnected from this vacc unit to the balance pipe. Maybe too hard for a mere chippy like me>>>:beer
Balance pipe on the inlet manifold, not exhaust manifold.
If Kombi auto boxes are anything like type 3 AT, they are virtually bullet proof. If something internal is wrong, then you're up for muchos mula,
but this is quite rare. Chances are it is just a matter of a loose or cracked vacuum hose which is easy to fix (even for a chippy)
