I have an auto oil leak from the bell housing. Have changed gov. seal, auto to diff seal and torque converter seal ( still leaks ) Fitted another
torque con. seal with speedy sleeve and it still leaks. Whats left torque con. has pin hole, hair line crack, blocked breather ???? Can anyone shed
some light so I can have my shed back to spray my baja. Tom:cry

Blocked breather is where I'd start.
Not sure on the rest?
I assume it's definitely not engine oil or diff oil?
Can't be oil from somewhere else that looks like it's from bell housing?
Thanks Andy its definatly auto fluid. Tom
I've got the same problem.unfortunately no answers just alot of headscratching.
how bad is the leak, mines more like a dribble WITH the new seal.
The housing for the seal is about 14mm deep while the seal is only 6mm thick.Should the seal fit flush with the outside of the housing(in about 6mm)
or push all the way in till it won't go no more,(in about 14mm)?I can't see that it would matter as it would SEEM to still be on the torque con
either way.Although if it were flush it could possibly be dislodged when installing the torque con.
just a thought but.
Maybe the fluid level? Could too much cause the torque con seal to leak or would the breather take care of that.

I've just found my old seal and compared it to the new one .the NEW one has a inside diameter nearly 1mm larger(approx 41mm) than the old one(approx
40mm), and obviously a looser fit on the shaft(41.65mm). The new one also has a smaller O.D. as well.
Could this be the problem?
But if you have a speedy sleeve installed should this have taken up the slack.

well just checked the breather and its OK. At the moment I have the fluid level 1/2 way between the full and low marks when hot so that should be OK. The seal I have fitted is CR 16507 42mm x 55mm x 8mm (high temp) with the corrosponding speedy sleeve, which is the seal listed for the car and if anything it looks over streched. I'll try to find an original seal next and try again?
Be sure the breathers are not blocked , you can also fit two seals in the housing it helps .
You may find the flax plate is warped ? seen this happen before .
Thank Seagull. I'll put 2 seals in next time I have the engine out and dial up the plate. Any other suggestions?
get the converter serviced it will cost about $110.00 inc gst .may be a big part of your problem .
took your advice and got converter checked. It had a hairline crack in it which leaked when pressure tested. Fitted new converter and she back on the road with quote ( no oil leaks ). Thanks all.
