hi
my sisters got a 1960 beetle, not sure of the gbox, probably a 1300 swing axle. yesterday just starting driving badly, she says its shuddering wen u
take off really badly, and now wont go into second, or popping out of second and also not going into fourth. i havent had a chance to drive it yet.
could this b a clutch problem or a gbox problem maybe?
any help is appreciated
thanks
sam
Gearbox mounts maybe?
bump
bring it around, can have a look, could be a few things, hard part is parts.. no local stores open this time of year.. if it is gearbox mounts.. can fix it.. Dad has 1 or 2 lying around
Sounds like it would be the front G/B mount.
so this mount will affect gearchanges etc? sounds like the whole thing is shuddering violently and gear changes r bad. wats ur number martin, im on msn or u2u me, thanks mate...
Sounds like it may be a lot of things...
shuddering clutch can be oil on clutch plate...
also engine/gearbox mounts are split in half....
and gearlinkage may be a bit sloppy....
Hopefully its the gearbox/engine mounts....
You can get NOLATHANE ones that virtually last forever....
they are red in color....
Best of Luck... but its not the end of the world....
Lee
cool she is freaking out, she just spent $500 on the car getting it driving well and this happens, first car, P plater, u know hwo it is...
its the front gbox mount
and a very dodgy selector linkage.. trying to
locate parts now
if all fails u guys muss not overlook the clutch cable conduit above the box
ie in 60s and pre- (split case) - often the bracket gets fatigued and cracks and reduces the important "S" bend tention for the clutch.
later than 60's have a more substantial bracket but poor front mounts will reduce the tension and produce severe shudder on take-off etc
you may need to add washers to increase tension esp if you have a different ( later ) box in it...
