Superduper-bug - December 30th, 2004 at 03:09 PM

Hey all.
new to the site tried looking but couldn't find any information on how much power '73 superbugs put out

i am looking at buying one but i don't want nothing with no guts! anyone with any ideas on the sorta kw they put out at the engine or the wheels.

i drove it but its got a smaller engine in it than standard the bigger engine comes with but not in so i can't test it out!

Regards

So your comparing a dual port 1300 and a dual port 1600? (I can't remember the engine codes)
I don't think there's much difference. 1600 is ~40HP, 1300 I guess ~35hp???
A stock VW was never built for speed but will give you years of loving reliable service when maintained :party

At the wheels that is, I think dual port 1600 put out 60HP at the flywheel
Remember a beetle only weighs 750kg!

thanx guys, thats good thats all i needed to know. i know its light so i mean 60 hp is good enough till i can afford to do something a bit more to the engine!

a dual port super bug engine with a 34 pict carb should put out 65 horses from factory. superbugs actually are quite adequatly powered for their weight.

a datsun 120y only has 67 horse power or something like that and they would be heavier.
