I was hoping to get some information on what is involved in transfering NSW rego from one owner to another (in NSW). Is the car required to be
inspected before being transfered into a new owners name (this is the case in ACT) or is it simply an annual inspection that is required?
Any help would be appreciated.
if its coming from interstate it will need a blueslip which is an unregistered inpection
Nope, registered in NSW by current owner and I want to rego it at my address in NSW. Any inspection required or do I simply go to the RTA and
transfer the rego?
Do I need to get a green slip (CTP Insurance) before I take delivery or is the car covered under the current green slip?
No inspection needed. Just pay your money (heaps in NSW) and its yours.
You must pay the transfer within 2 weeks of purchasing the car or else the RTA whacks a big fine on you. Rego costs enough here as it is without paying the buggers more money!
Dishonest, criminal people have been known to understate the value of the car in order to reduce the tax take.
They should be jailed.
Easy to convince the thieving pen pushers that a 40 year old vw is worth a measly few hundred.
They dont know its a fully restored oval you paid 10 grand for.
as long as you have the rego papers signed over to you OR the sales receipt stating vin, engine persons name address and yours just go to rta fill
in transfer of registration form pay your money and away you go,and just hope it wasnt owned by a pensioner as you will have to pay the difference

Me too, got stung badly with that one.
Re the post previous about paying sooo much in rego in NSW.....must depend on your cars.
I've moved around a fair bit and had vehicles registered in QLD, NSW, ACT, and VIC.....even though QLD was home and I spent a majority of my time
there, I saved $150 in rego on my Commodore when I came back to NSW (even including the blue slip), I dunno what the bug would have been worth up
there but I was happy to save on rego!
Now I am moving back to ACT....doh.....now I'll be shelling out....
in nsw city rego and greenslips are dearer than our country cousins
Thanks all who responded. If I have this right, I should be able to simply walk into an RTA office and transfer the car into my name after paying
stamp duty.
Does the greenslip (this is Compulsory Third Party Insurance - CTP right?) transfer from one owner to another as well, or do I need to take out a
greenslip policy for myself?
greenslip transfers over ,you might get notification from the insurer as some are slack at doing this
