Inverter Question...
Davecho - January 2nd, 2005 at 09:17 PM

Just got a quick question. Unlike my previous inverter this one has a earth ground on it. Just wondering if that is ment to be grounded to the chasis or somthing else???

you would have to open it up and check the internal wiring to know what this is meant to be connected to.

Yes, negative earth. You connect both the main terminals with a big wire direct to battery and the other earth to chassis.
Seems a bit unusual to have that but it's for safety im guessing.

What do the destructions say?

did not include any :|
i thought to the chasis but wanted to double check

They probably included that earth because some people may mount the inverter onto an mdf panel or something insulated and this way the casing is not actually earthed to the metal of the car.

Use a big, hairy arsed fuse as well for safety like the ones the habibs use on their mega watt stereo systems. The inverter itself probably has one anyway.

okies will do :D

It seems unusual, but the inverter could be used in a Positive earth system, in which case, [no pun intended] the earth would be positive...

The Positive & Negative in the inverter are floating and insulated from the case...

It May stop some electrical interference if the case is earthed... Negative or Positive it doesn't matter....
