Whats a good suspension for an L bug ?
Doug Sweetman - January 28th, 2003 at 05:19 PM

Guys, after 30 solid years of work the stock shockies in my 73 are absolutely cactus.

Who can reccomend (brand and model if possible) a suspension set up for it ?

shockies, new front springs ?, anti roll bars ? etc etc.

Thanks once again guys.

i've been trying to get a good setup on my 74 L at the moment. iam trying to get a good street car. I use it for track and khanacross, so need something good on flat tracks and also can handle lumpy padocks. At the moment it stands at kyb gas rear shocks, koni sport front shocks, -1.5 degress front camber, 185/65/r 15 falken tyres. have got but haven't used yet, a 24mm adjustable rear swaybar. I try and talk to as many good handling supers as possible, and each time i get a different answer. My setup when finished will be, koni sport front and rear shocks, 30mm lower and 35% stiffer front springs(ordered today), type 3 rear torsion bars, and a second front and the rear swaybar, for track(and or road use) and taken off for khanacross. the biggest diference was the tyres, they make a huge difference, next set will b 195/60 r 15s front and 205/60r15s rear, at the moment the car is neutral to slight oversteer at high speed,a understeer on entry and over at exit for slow corners. talk to jak rizo, he runs a very fast super for the track.

I would recomend talking to Richard at V Vorce. Yeah i know he is in Sydney but he is making adjustable struts with King Springs. I have just put a set of these on with some 16" Carrera 2 wheels 6" & 7"
The handling is SUPERB!
Add urethene front bushes, and Type 3 rear torsion bars and you will have a well handling beast!
Give him a call on 02 9743 1247 - i think you will be surprised what he is selling them for - even after shipping is added in!

Off the subject, but has anyone noticed that Glen Ring uses Berg semi hemi cut heads with 9.25:1 CR.
The successful combination of 2 contradictory and much debated theories?
Huge compression and no squish?
Does the 296 deg cam bleed off enough compression to get dynamic CR into Bergs range?
