flaming river make steering shafts ones a tube and the other is solid. you might be able to fit them in the original tube or have a look at their vw replacement colums very nice most hot rod supplys will carry flaming river or Ididit.

I'm pretty sure My Son used a collapsable steering column from a 1968> beetle in His 1956 oval Beetle....

He didn't use the late model wiper/blinker switches though He just used the regular blinker lever etc....

It was done many years ago... so I don't remember the details....

I suppose it would be neat to have the wiper/blinker/headlamp hi/lo etc levers on an early model beetle...
Imagine.. wipers/headlamp Hi/Lo etc all at your finger tips...

I'm looking at using a later model collapsable column in my oval (sort of) bug. At the moment I am looking to just replace the steel spear with the new column. Haven't done any measurements etc, so not sure of legths etc.

I used a '68 column in mine - plus the switches. It's a bit dodgy where I mounted it (i drilled holes under the dash) bat has worked okay for 15 years so far
