i have a superbug box with a busted cv joint on the side and need to get it repressed. i have been told i may be able to get it off without taking the motor and gearbox out, is this true and if so how would i do it?

If i am reading this right - toy just want to take the universal off???
ie - the axle with the cv's on it??

If so you "just" undo it. It is held on by 8? "star" headed bolts. They are like an allen key but twice as many angles.
Dont be tempted to use an allen key - you will only stuff the head. Then you are stuffed. Not farked - just stuffed. Need to chisel it off then.
Most tool shops sell them as a 1/2" drive. Need a bit of leverage and a good hand brake.

If I am understanding this correctly. You have busted/stripped the threads in the "drive flange" (has six bolts to hold the on CV joint) and you want to remove this from the gearbox?
Well, this should really be done under a press. However if you remove the 'CV joint' . Prise out the sealing cap in the centre of the drive flange - it will have to renewed. Somehow put some force on the drive flange to force it towards the gearbox - there is an inner spacer that provides preload to the drive flange, then remove the inner 'circlip' from the drive shaft. This should allow you to remove the drive flange. Installation is the reverse.
BTY you may lose a little oil in the process.
