Type 3 models??
Andy - January 13th, 2005 at 10:36 AM

Well I'm still new to the type 3 scene, so can some one give me a brief rundown (or link to web page) of model years and major changes?

Specifically what I would like to know now is mechanical differences between '69 and '73.
I have a '73 square auto and am chasing a '69 fasty auto parts car. Both 1600 dual carb. I will see the car soon, so will know straight away if the body/interior etc are similar but what about front ends/autos/motors etc are they interchangable?

Cheers,
Richard :duh

I think most of the front end etc is fairly compatible. The motors are not identical but are interchangable and I think the auto trannys were all the same. The front & rear brakes on the '73 Sq will be bigger, the torsion bars are bigger.

Obviously the panels, lights and other exterior trim is different. The interior is similar but different.

IMHO it's a bit of a shame to scrap the '69. They are a rarer model, especially with the AT, plus I'm more partial to fastys.

Hey Purple, I hear you. I bought the wagon to be a parts car but it's now a run around car and good enough to be a daily driver!! (still has rust isses though).
Now the fasty has come up, but the current owner has already pulled parts from it. If I do get it I will make the decision from there, so it may be saved yet, all depends on how much cancer it has ;)

I suppose the problem is if it is too good to scrap I will need to sell it to get the parts car I need, and you know they seem to be worthless ATM.
Maybe I need a bigger back yard to store 'em all :thumb

Cool, good to hear. Good luck getting your hands on it.
