Do these have discs up front or 4 wheel drums?
What size motor did these come out with?
Cheers
1600 tp and discs up front drums rear
IRS rear suspension - not sure if 71's were the first 1302 beetles, if they are, then they are mcpherson strut front end too.
i think supers came out in 72 and ran till late 74/75. All supers had dick bake front, mac struts and irs rear. there was also the poverty version
with torsion bars, the poverty version came out witha 1300cc, while i think all supers had 1600 twin ports?
teh supers are divided into 2 groups
1302- flat windscreen, 3 bolt struts
1303- curved screen , 2 bolt struts, the later 1303 also had r&p not a steering box.
early 73 1303's had the 3 bolt struts too, same struts as in the 1302's
superbeetles were 1st seen here in Australia in 1971.
these cars had the 1600 tp with strut front end and IRS rear.
disc front and drum rear.
there was also the standard beetle which still used the balljoint/swingaxle setup and had drums allround. i think these had the 1300tp in them.
can be tricky at times to tell them apart from the earlier 1500 beetle and superbug as they used a mixture of both
thanks for the info guys it helped
cheers

Hey, working out the supers are easy
They have the volkswagen s badges on the back...lol!
ppl right.
Super came out in 71 (son has 71 and I have a 72)
I have a manual, but also a good site to visit is
http://www.vw-resource.com/index.html
I ahve found it to be helpful, and also alot of the writing (except their own commentary) is from the manuals.
