Hi,
Started 71 beetle this morning, and red light "G" would not turn off. Dims when revved, but will not go away completely.
How do I make light stay off when car is on??
Disconnect the wire.
It won't bother you again.
Replace the regulator
it means the charge system is not charging. find out why its not charging. and fix that. could be gen/alternator. regulator, etc.
Check the belt tension. It could be slipping.
Could even be that it isn't excited enough to charge. How long did you rev it for? Did you sustain revs of around 2k for more than a few seconds?
This happened to me yesterday. It wouldn't turn off if I reved it in the drive way but it turned itself off once I drove it around the corner (but
not before checking the fan belt and other little thinks in the engine bay).

Drove it round the block, light flickered and faded, but never stayed off. Got into third gear, is this enough revs??
Will check tension in belt when i get home. Would a slipping belt sqeak/sqeal?
Ta
problem "seemingly" solved. Played with battery terminals, played with wires (cleaned and tightened), drove around the block - NO light.
can't actually say what it was, or how it was fixed.
Further to the issue, light came back on after hitting a bump in our god CQ roads. Wasn't battery cables. Took a reading from the generator and found an output of 1.08 volts. Hmm. Looking in the generator, and found brushes that were in very sad condition. Pushed on them, so contact was made with communator and guess what, 12 v output with no light blaring at me. So new brushes are required.
i had to replace my generator, yet still my oil light wont go off...
