Is there a knack to putting on the spark leads so they stay on ?
Got my beetle serviced last Monday,one of the leads came off on the way home (100kms)
Put it back on or so i thort
Was loose the next time I drove it 4 days later
So am I not doing something properly ?

have a look at the connector and see if the wire clip is still there. if its not replace the connector

I assume You are Not using the genuine VW bakelite spark plug connectors that the rubber grommet fits onto....

These fit onto the spark plugs without the nut on the top of the spark plug... they fit onto the threaded section...
If You are using the genuine VW ones then they probably need replacing...
they will only last 25 years.....

I've never had one come off, but then I always replace mine every few years... as the heat will eventually weaken the spring that attaches to the spark plug head....

Thats still there.....
I am replacing all of them next week anyhow...leads I mean and the nice mechanic is relpacing

Rear brake shoes
Front and rear brake hoses
Front wheel bearings
All in preparation for my trip to the Sunshine coast !

Got a list of 18 things that need attention
Ranging from new oil filler cap (got already) to
Oil cooler seals need relpacing......I hope they do the trip down south for me

is the nut still on top of the plug cause if it is the lead wont stay on

And no the ones on there and and the ones I will be replacing them with are NON genuine.
Vern won't know himself in a couple of weeks
Of course the missus isn't as happy as Vern is !

I will check for the nut next time I am home in daylight (Tuesday)

Yes, the VW spark plug leads cannot burn out due to them being made from copper wire.... not silicone or other synthetic materials.... and the VW bakelite resistor spark plug caps mate to the rubber grommet seals which are necessary for the engine cooling... no grommett seals = same as having a leaking hose in a water cooled car...

The rotor button in the distributor can burn out....
these have a resistor built into them ...
Its not a coimmon thing but always carry a spare..
2nd hand or new.... same with the condenser....

It is good practise to replace the brake hoses front & rear, as they have lasted a long time....
I'm sure they weren't made to last over 20 years...
