hey guys im just curious to know what oil is best when doing an oil change, ive got a 2lt kombi. ive been told to get some penrite HPR30 is this the
right one??
thanks
G'day,
What you'll find is that everyone will have a favourite oil that has worked for them and they haven't had any trouble for years, etc, etc. My
suggestion would be to check with a couple of VW Workshops and ask what they reckomend as they generally would provide a warranty on their work and
want it to last so would usually use a good quality oil.
I use Valvoline XLD Premium in all my VWs and have done for many years and currently in the Desert Splitty I add 60ml of M10 Friction Modifier per
litre of oil to reduce friction and in turn reduce heat. This seems to be working for me in up to 60 degree ambient temperature up here in the
desert.
Cheers, Ian.
i have 2 lt kombi pentrite30 hpr works for me i run it in all my vws no problens:beer
If you want heaps more info, there are already quite long threads if you can be bothered searching.
I'm experimenting Valvoline Max Life for 1600 engine in my microbus.
It's for high milage engines, the manufacturer says.

For me, the engine seems to be more quiet going at its top speed than running with XLD Premium. Could be just my hearing only. d(^^)b
yeah i decided to buy some of the penrite HPR30 and ill see what happens ay!.
thanks for all your help!!:beer
Good one mate thats a good oil penrite but if your summer down there gets a bit hot try 40 or 50
the trouble with oil is there's no way of 'testing' unless you want to hook up temp probes and etc and destroy an engine every couple of weeks. Just about any oil is fine in a VW - I uses Castrol GTX 2 in every car I own - VW and Holden V8s - cos my VW engine builder (Stan Pobjoy) told me to!
