Now getting around to checking the brakes. Drums rear , discs front. Pedal is reasonable but handbrake is way high.Brakes are okay but need checking , bleeding etc for rego.
Question is as i was moving the fluid tank on the front of the bonnet area the actual tank itself slid straight of the pipe. So all i have is the tank in my hand and the line pocking out of the bulkhead. looks like the lip on the line has broken off allowing the tank to slip off. Tank was empty and hanging off when i bought it. Is it a matter of just getting it flared again and reattaching it???
If not what shall i do. Is there a replacement or improvement i could do? Lastly what does a master cylinder roughly cost????

If Your master cylinder is still in one piece.....

You can get a stainless steel sleeve & a seal kit installed for under $100... and they will last forever.....

Yours is probably a single brake line system....

some of those aren't too expensive - around $100
but I did see - master cylinder for type 3 $225 in a magazine

so maybe they are different to a Beetles.....
and Beetle parts are inexpensive as most come from Brazil...
type 3s most likely are German parts....

do you mean 'brake master cylinder reservoir' in the luggage area? If so, you may be able to use it again... Or get a new one if the little dick thing has broken off it due to old age. You must bleed your brake system and fill with all-new fluid if it has been open to the atmosphere for any length of time.

I think T3 master cylinder is the same as Beetle???? around $100 I think...
