Engine and Gearbox Storage

Hi all,

I saw this topic covered a few months ago but I didn't need it then!

I am looking at buying an engine and gearbox (out of a currently-running bug) to be eventually installed into my '60. What I want to know is what I need to do to them to store them, so that they have the best chance of starting OK when installed.

I'm hoping to only store them up to maybe 6 months, but do I need to do anything specifically? Drain oil? Obviously cover them for dust, etc....but what else? Nothing high-tech in the engine, just stock....thanks....

All I would do is drain old oil from the engne and fill it with fresh stuff - run it in the car for a few days before removing the engien so everything gets a good 'flush'. Store it full of oil for 6 months. Cover intake and exhaust with strong 'race' tape. DO NOT turn the engien while it is in storage - it wipes the bearings of oil
