This should be a simple one for you tech wizzs out there.
The gen light in my 1972 super beetle comes on when I start it, but stays on until I rev the car to about 3000 RPM, then prompty goes off, never to
return.
Ok, I lie, it sometimes does come on, say 2 times in an hour trip, but once again, a hard rev, and off she goes.
It is not rev related to my knowledge, as the light still functions as normal in al other circumstances.
My only thought is that maybe the points in my reg are gone, but you guys hold the knowledge and experience.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Try cleaning all the connections (battery terminals, generator and regulator pins and connectors) and see how you go. Failing that it might be time for new brushes in your generator.
I would say a dodgy regulator contacts
Ok, this may be a little not-quite-what-you-need, but here goes. My alt and brake lights used to flicker whenever the revs got to (and above!) 3000.
This happened with increasing severity for about 6000km, after which I had no more lights at all, becuase the alternator finally called it a day.
Well, it was providing about 6V, enough to run the car (plugs), but clearly the battery was completely flat. Roll-started no problems. Anyway, I had
the alternator serviced (usual stuff), and when I put it in again, I got a lovely 14V. No more flickery lights at all. I hadn't suspected the
alternator, I had thought it was just dodgy connections or something... yeah well, we all gotta learn somehow right? Anyway, all good now.
Good luck there dude!
