Adapter Brackets for Inertia Seat Belts
StenGuns - February 3rd, 2005 at 02:44 PM

I want to fit inertia reel belts into a 67 bug.. To fit correctly I need to mount an -L shaped adapter bracket onto the tunnel..

Question is: This bracket needs to be engineer certified.. I have been quoted by an RTA approved installer $100 to make the brackets, $120 to install and approximately $200 for the engineers report..

I know you can get these brackets offshore, but would then need certification.. Is there somewhere you can purchase pre-certified brackets?.. Or is there some other way to approach it?..

Thanks
Rob

Rob,
RTA approved installer? As long as the installed item is inspected by a Engineer and certified you should be ok. I used 40x40mmx6mm angle. Cut and filed the upright part into a triangle with a 12mm high tensile bolt through it to mount the inertia reel. Used 2x10mm high tensile bolts through the floor through a 40x150mm x 6mm plate underneath. Engineer was cool with it so was Blue Slip inspector. I used Klippan K1513/1514 retractable units.

OK.. I may have bought wrong as I have K1512's for the front and K2256's for the rear..
The rear is a different issue.. I need to find out if you can mount the belt housing on the verticle fastening point above and behind the rear seats.. The manual says only "approved" for horizontal position..

On the front.. I was thinking that the bracket had somehow to be fastened to the bottom of the post.. So you fit it to the floor?.. Any chance of a picture of your install?

Appreciate the specs..
Rob

Now I've had a good look I can see what you've done.. I think!
Is it something like this diagram?..
By the way the K1512 and 1513 only differ on the length of the stalk.. You've got an additional 85mm you lucky boy!
