Twin port vs single port heads
Brett - February 22nd, 2005 at 07:13 AM

I posted this yesterday bit it got deleated in the dramas with the fourm.
I am about to undertake a top end rebuild of my 1600 twin port motor. This motor will become the heart of my 15KVA 3 phase portable gen set.

But all the control gear for the manaofold and govenor are for a single port motor. In the rebuild I plan to use single port heads.
I understand there is a difference in stud lenght but other than that, is this a easy swap?.
When I purchase the single port heads how do I avoid the poorer quality Brazilian heads, and ensure I get quality.
Thanks Brett

Brazilian head quality is good, i have used a few sets of brazilian twin port heads and not had any problems. other than the studs its a straight swap.

You are from Millthorpe?, I drove through there on the weekend, nice place, I have rellows there.

Brazilian head is good :)

Have you considered rebuilt german single port heads?

I had been told by an old guy that the brazilian gear was not up to quality, good to hear it is not a problem. I can now just shop around and find the best deal for me.

Jon I am considering all options, I was just trying to get some more information so I was better prepared when I start to ring around the dealers.

Dan Millthorpe is great, bit cold in Winter, but I hate the heat and humidity and you can dress for the cold. Your rellows in town or on land.

Brett,
Some of the Brazillian stuff is not so good, but heads and most engine parts seem to be fine.

I have an Uncle who has a farm a mile out of town on the road to Orange, all my family come from around that area, I got married in Millthorpe, and use to live on a farm at Spring hill before moving to Orange in the early 80's.

Thanks Dave for the advice on Brazilian gear. I live between Millthorpe and Forest Reefs on a small farm. Small world.
