Hi everyone,
I've just bought a 1973 VW Kombi from Australia. I'm having difficulty locating a mians inlet socket of the type fitted. I don't want to cut the bus to fit the great big type fitted to caravans. The one fitted measures 8cm from top to bottom and 7cm wide. It is sited just above the lefthand air vent. The top cover has broken off therefore new unit is needed as it rains a lot in Scotland. Can anyone point me in the right direction to purchase one. Chin Chin Neilly

Was that the kombi that was for sale in ULTRA VW magazine?

Clipsal is a local australia brand of electrical things like power points... switches etc...

Don't You use different power points than Us??

They are probably very easy to find over here... but in
Scotland.... may be difficult...

I bought it from a company based in Leeds, England. It is called recyclingVWs. They advertise in Volks World. Still cannae get these photoies moved onto these pages to show the part I'm seeking.

If it is this one it is a Clipsal item.

Sorry. Forgot to post the Cat Number.

435VF15. The 15 stands for 15Amp which means the earth pin is larger than the active and neutral. I think the same unit 435VF10 would be the 10amp one.
You can also get a mounting block 435VFM.

A (possibly stupid) question on similar lines....

I have a 15A socket (big earth pin) on the side of the kombi and a15A extension lead so that I can plug it in. But I can't because of the big earth pin which wont go into my sockets at home. Am I missing some piece of kit which limits the current to 15A and plugs into a normal mains socket? Or are all camping site connections like this and I can't plug it in at home?

I'm (fairly) new to Oz and totally new to hook-ups like this.

You could use 10Amp male plug at one end and a 15Amp socket on the other. Or alternatively change your Kombi to a 10Amp inlet.

I personally would do the second option. You can still plug a 10Amp lead into a 15Amp outlet.

Thanks for the info guys, if you can just change the plugs over why not use standard household plugs & sockets?

The 15 ampere plugs and leads are to be used when You actually need up to 15 amperes of Power....

If You don't need 15 amperes then just use a normal 10 ampere power point and 10 ampere extension lead...

They have probably standardised 15 ampere Power points etc at caravan parks these days due to the many caravans etc with Air Conditioners...

So if You don't have an air conditioner etc or anything that uses large amounts of power, just use a normal 10 ampere extension lead....
