I have just fitted new inner and outer scrapers as well as new felts up the quarter window and across the top and rear of the door on my 68 beetle.
My problem is that when I wind up the window, the window grabs the outer scraper and starts to pull the clips out of their holes in the door as I wind
up the window. It is obviously too tight but why?
All the clips seem to be in properly so what can I do to get it operating up and down without grabbing?
Thanks
Yogie
I had the same problem.... Yogie
there is a lip on the lower edge of the outer scraper that grabs hold of the glass....
I cut this edge off with a single sided razor blade....
I also glued My scrapers in.... all the clips on one side broke off when installing....
the clips didn't break off on the others but I still added some glue ....
I think I cut the lower edge off all scrapers so they couldn't grab the glass....
If the glass is too tight in the bailey channel... going up & down...
problem is the bailey channel is too tight for the glass..
I found a tool to widen the bailey channel....
Its just a chromed Hook, made for screwing into a Pagola for a pot plant to hang from... they are available from Big W...
Its usually only tight in a few places... just run the hook up & down the bailey channel, twisting it slightly when a tight spot is found....
You have done one of the worst jobs in restoring a Beetle,,,
IMHO...

Thanks Lee.
I used a big standard screwdriver to spread out the bailey channel felts. It did seem to be grabbing from the bottom of the scraper so I will try to
trim it and see how that goes. Pain in the bum to take it all out again but at least I haven't done the drivers side yet.
Cheers
Hi again,
I've still got one bailey channel to do....
I wrecked one of them trying to push it into those square clips.... I've had the new one for a long time....
I just don't like touching those things.....
If only You could buy ready done doors.....

I had read on Forums overseas about the clips breaking off the scrapers made in Brazil & mexico....
Some said to keep the long wire clip from the early models and use it instead.... so it is a problem...
It makes You wonder what they did in the VW Factory in Mexico etc.....
I used some selleys glue in a tube....
supposed to glue anything.... only came out last year....
I hope it holds....
Maybe I should have glued the bailey channels in too....!!

Try spraying some silicon lube down the chanel to allow the glass to slide up instead of sticking to it. Always worked for me....:bounce
I kept all the original clips for the bailey channel and the felt seemed to go in them OK. Just needed to be spread a little afterwards. Clips on
the scraper are another thing though. There are more holes in the door to take them than there are clips to go in to them. Must be cheaper to make
them that way or something but they aren't as good.
Silicone might also help. Thanks Mick.

I sprayed silicone and trimmed the rubber and they now go up and down but they are tight. I think spreading out the bailey channels should fix the
rest of it so thanks guys.
