Hi all,
My '76 camper has snapped off the gas pedal pivot bracket from the floor due to worn linkages putting the pedal on an angle for some time. Can anyone
suggest a fix for this and where I could get 2nd hand parts or a repair kit in Sydney? The pivot pin has also broken.
I thought of drilling out a bracket from another kombi and riveting it to the floor but not sure if rivets will be strong enough to keep it there.
Cheers!

My 76 camper had the same problem and was fixed by a PO by welding an ordinary door/cupboard type hinge to the pedal and bolting it to the floor. Works a treat!
Thanks mate.
With a good strong hinge that would be an effective fix I guess. No to sound like a purist but if I could get the original bits in good order that
would be preferable. I am warming to your idea though.
BTW I had been driving around like this since I bought the car (3 weeks ago) with it getting progressively worse until I decided to remove it and take
a look. Now I just wear thick shoes and push hard directly on the rod instead. :jesus
I was thinking that kombi's were real slugs to drive. That was before I discovered that I was only getting maybe 1/2 throttle with the pedal flat to
the floor!
Cheers!

I'm not sure new parts are available.
I scavanged a good used piece of floor from a wreck for mine. The hing is quite simple and would not be hard to make your own factory looking copy.

Hey, this repair part is available from here >>>> http://www2.cip1.com/?Click=38510 Enjoy

VolksFolks, I looked but didn't see the part on their website.

I too used a std door hinge...
I used a small gate hinge and bolted it to the floor after bolting the pedal to it. No more problems:o
Sorry, try again go here http://www2.cip1.com/?Click=38510 and then copy

New parts are available from Classic VW(pacific) in Brisbane.
They get them from Justkampers in the U.K.
They can also get the whole assembly or just the parts, to fit Right Hand Drive cars.
Cheers

Wow thanks for all the replies!
I found the product on the CIP website but they want more for shipping than the cost of the part!
Might be time to call a few wreckers or go to the hardware store and get a hinge. The linkage under the pedal in my bus is pretty sloppy so will the
hinge be good enough to compensate? Will shimming it up with washers alter the geometry and pressure needed to push the pedal all the way?
Also, there is a small return spring under there which is broken. Do I need it or will the throttle springs down the back provide enough return
without it?
Thanks for all the help.

Contact Roy at Classic he will sort you out.

Thanks fellas,
I've just done the gate hinge "mod" and I must say it really works a treat!
Much stronger than the original design for sure.
Couldn't wait for the real thing (thanks anyway Roy from Classic VW Pacific!) because I need to drive to the Blue Mountains tomorrow and pressing on
the rod without a pedal there has given me somewhat of a sore foot!
Anyway that's another winner from those in the know.
I'll be sure to buy you guys a beer when we catch up someday... :beer
Thanks heaps!
