E - March 11th, 2005 at 10:57 AM

And how would i install such a device? My bug doesn't have one, and I would like to listen to the radio.

Where can I get one, or what sort, and How can I install it?

the standard is a coat hanger bent into the shape of either Australia or a vw logo...

my old 63 had an aftermarket aerial fitted to the side, just behind the front guard, buy one from super cheap...

music...what ur not in love with dakdakdak

bugeyedbabe - March 11th, 2005 at 02:05 PM

yeah grbbing antennae just depends on whether u want original or not..

easier enough to come and do..

akean1 - March 11th, 2005 at 02:09 PM

depends on what look you want, have a look through vw pics and see the differences. i like the dual side mounted ones, lots of different ways to mount these.

bugeyedbabe - March 11th, 2005 at 02:19 PM

u probably still have the big one from previous ariel...maybe..

i have an aftermarket on my type 3, it's on the roof, in the centre at the front above the winscreen. i'm happy with it. not stock but i like the fact it's not coming out of the gaurd, that's something i don't like. but each to his own

Antennas made for late VWs [1968>] are still fairly common..
they fit next to of the windscreen on the LHS... in the hole that was put there in the factory.... they are not expensive...

If its an early model Beetle, You have to drill the hole/holes for the antenna... they used to be normally - wherever the dealership used to put them -
either on the LHS or RHS just in front of the door....
they used to use a long antenna with two attachments in the panel... ie two holes are needed... the antenna doesn't sit up straight, but lays back at an angle....

or You can use a common universal antenna with just the one hole....

Mitsubishi Galants used the boot as an antenna....
it was just insulated with rubber washers and spacers and it worked very well.... I never heard of any Galant owner having His antenna bent or broken....:):):)

i reckon one of those little modern springy ones that look sorta like little tails(only about 5 - 10cm long) that you see on the back of beemers and such just above the rear wondow wold look great on a bug.
