I am looking after a car for a friend. It has a steroids engine in it.
The only timing mark on the pulley that i can find is a painted on one. It states "timing". I assume this is to be statically timed at this point ?
There are no marks that state TDC or BDC - so I figure I need to find these and mark the pulley ?
Also what valve lash are you running with these engines ?
you need help alright
Valve lash is .006 inches. As for the timing mark...it should be a dent/mark on the pulley like a normal engine. When the marks are upwards, the one on the right is the timing mark and the other (straight up) is the TDC mark (valve adjustments) A picture of the pully would help to see if it is standard though.....
If there are any doubts, put on a standard pulley and do the timing off that. As far as I know, all of Stan's engines with a 009 dissy are timed at
7.5 degrees BTDC. All mine have been.. I think!!
Might be a good idea to call Stan and discuss the valve clearance - it varies with the cam, I think...
I knew there were a couple of Stan's donks across the pond
if your removing the pully, be carefull not to bend it (dont use big screwdriver to lever it off) get hold of a pully puller
OK. I found a wee dent in the pully (it is a stocker), checked TDC and its on the money. Timing looks about 7.5 degrees before TDC static... I like
my santana degreed pulley much better than the stock POS.
Ill get hold of the owner for the rest of the info...
Thanks for the help.
I still need help but not with the car.
