For all those out there with stroker motors that run on the street what gear ratios do you run and what mods have you done to your transmission to
make it capable of withstanding the extra forces. I am looking at motors bigger than 2.0litres.
Any information is more than welcome.....
mine is 1903 and i have a 6 volt type 3 box in mine no probs

Do you know what the ratios are? What is it like for driving around town?
Short of first gear, does second gear allow for a good long pull ie pull you from ~20kph to 70kph easily(thanks to the engine torque) and what is it
like on the highway?
its hard to comment really i havent driven around that much it sat on 70mph on the freeway and had plenty more but i havent gone there ,i also have not gave it everything in 2nd but it gets up and goes ,how quick in 2nd dont know , i must add mine is in a split bus so will be different. ask dave becker he is on the ball with this sort of thing
I have a 2110 with a stock IRS Single side cover box in it. It has a 3.88 r and p. The gears are 3.80 2.06 1.26 .89.
At 7000 rpm it pulls 1. 30mph 2. 60mph 3. 100mph. Cruises in 4th at 65 - 70mph at about 3000 rpm.
I would class the gearing as tall, probably stock gears with a 4.125 r and p would be a better option. Depends a lot on car weight, engine torque, and
the use of the vehicle.
The only mods I have made to the box is a ZF LSD, everything else is stock (rebuilt).
Although my type IV is not classed as a stroker, it is close to 2L

you know I haven't had it on the road yet but the box is from a 68 swing axle beetle - 3.88r&p and 0.89 4th. Heavy duty side plate, super diff,
welded 3rd and 4th gears etc. This will be fairly tall but my priority was cruising rather than drag racing, plus the type IV will produce a decent
amount of torque which will suit the longer legs of the box. I'll be sure to give you a drive when it is done 
Brad's IRS box (that will eventually go into his ghia) has custom super beetle mainshaft, 4.125 r&p from memory and 1.04 4th...super diff, welded
3rd and 4th etc.....this will be lots more fun from traffic light to traffic light but not so fun on long drives.

It seems like everone spends more time on the sizes of their engines and alloy wheels than to get the power to the ground.
Has no-one driven a car with a good combination of gears and ratios that suits daily drivers.... I know there will be a lot of opinions on what is

I am in the process of going to a 2276. The guy who ported my heads wanted to know - Gearbox ratios, tyre size, car weight, driver weight, carb size,
cam numbers, exhaust size, fuel, compresion ratio, and the main use of the car.
Its a matter of matching it all up to work together. My first combo was a bit to peaky for the rest of the bits it was driving through...
I have spoken with an engine builder on this issue and his advice, which I will probably go with is stick to what volkswagen put together with reference to the ratios, however he did suggest changing the final drive ratio to a 4.125 (or something like that)...... does anyone have an LSD with a 4.125 crown and pinion diff to get me out of this mess??? :thumb
