How hard is it to fit a 4 point roll bar into an oval.
Do you need to take the body off the pan or will it fit thru the door.
Been thinking about using the 57 for a bit of motor sport, hill climbs or motorkhanas and need to fit better seat belts that the laps I have currently. Dont want to drill holes in the b pillars.

You can fit a rollcage "thru the door". If the vehicle is being raced, it needs to comply with C.A.M.S standard requirements for rollover protection. This covers the type of steel (no longer aluminum,unless car has a pre 2000 logbook!) size of mounting point brackets and size of bolts needed etc. The easiest way is to ring "BOND rollbars" and order over the phone.
P.S. you also need a cross bar that runs diagonally through the middle hoop, this usually affects the passengers seat/head area !! the cage also needs to be padded, and may affect your insurance policy.

As for the belts, use a 4 point harness that bolts thru the parcel shelf or below the rear window and thru the floor pan at the side of the seat, remembering to use large plates with rounded corners to reinforce the locating area.
The best bet for preparing the car is to purchase a CAMS manual which has all the requirements for your setup. You will then need to get a "log" book for your car which is like a "Passport" before the vehicle can race at state hillclimbs etc.


After all of that you can race without a cage if you choose, CAMS just get picky went you fit one. "IT MUST COMPLY!!"

Thanks Craig, so I could race with out a roll cage? Sounds like a racing seat and harness would do.

I wasn't looking at any real serious racing like CT or Jak just Motokana or local hill climb stuff. Do CAMS rules still apply here?

You will still need the "basic" requirements set out by CAMS. This will include fire extinguisher, battery location marker (blue triangle), 2 means of locking the bonnet, no hubcaps, etc. Its all common sense type of requirements, mainly relating to safety.
If the club you are a member of is running the event then you do not need a log book ! but the cars still needs the basics. .

As for hillclimbs, run at Morwell, its a great track, and if you join their club you can rent the track for cheap $$ !!

i do motokhana, khanacross, hillclimb and lap sprints, all in my 74. All i had to do for motokhana, was make sure the car was road worthy, khanacross, needs a fire extinguisher, and hillclimb and lapsprints also need the blue triangle and second bonnet latch. If ur racing in the road registered section the car has to basically road worthy, not sure about lap sash though. One question, I've seen 2 cars roll at khanacross, so far(both were ex rally cars and therefore full cages) and iam thinking roll hoop or halfcage mite be wise, if i do fit one, does it have to meet cams specs? as it will only be for my piece of mind .not to pass regulations for the class?

you dont need to have a harness or a roll cage but if you do then it must comply.
