Ok, I have a kombi and want to put big wheels on it. I notice that most owners are runnig a beetle gear box to get the lower ratios when running big
tyres.
Will the 2 ltr engine mount up to the beetle gear box or is there some changes that are needed?
Is it possible to change a swing axle beetle gear box to suit the IRS?
Or another way I thought to get ground clearance and lower gearing is to mount reduction boxes on the IRS arm, is this possible? Can the reduction box
be modified to take the drive shaft?
I have a spare over hauled beetle gear box and reduction hubs that I was going to put in my Country Buggy.
What year Kombi? Most of the Baja Buses getting around run a 1600 Kombi box and a 2L engine. If its a Split Kombi then the reduction boxes are ok for the bigger tyres.
its a 1979 Kombi.
Will the 2 ltr engine mount straight up to the bettle gear box?
Are they strong enough?
You wont be using a beetle box in a 79 Kombi........you want a 1600 KOMBI gearbox
And how hard are thay to come by? They mus t be pretty old now.
Will the 2 ltr mount straight up with out problems?
Lots of 1600 boxes about as many people dont want them, you will have the swap the bellhousing and input shaft to 2L units
I talked to a VW guy and he thinks he can put the 1st and 2nd gear from the kombi 1600 into the 2ltr box. This would be good if possible as it will
give a low gear for sand/bush work and a good highway gear.
Has any one tried this?
I'm running a 1600 box with a 0.82 top gear...same effect
