Dear fellow vee dubbers, i have a tech talk question and stor in one...
My mum was driving my bug this afternoon, and as she drove down a hill the accelerator became stuck on, and wouldnt return.. in her panic she drove
through a stop sign and where cars were a while away but close enough to cause some greif and then applied the clutch in which the car revved its
little box off broke and switched off the iginiton... after retrival of the car. I discovered that the acelerator pedal had litterally pulled out of
its hole thouigh the brake and clutch pedal... however did not brake the accelerator cable. and for the life of me i cant work out how to get it back
in there and STAY in there.
I have pushed the pedal back into the hole, and its firm in there, but with not too much pressure it can be pushed back out...
so is there a special way to keep it in there that i cant observe???

What year beetle? Is it 66 as suggested in your username?
I'm sure it is, but don't know if your mum was driving your 66, or if you had another beetle?

The accelerator pedal depends on having No freeplay
at the engine...
The engine should rev as soon as You touch the accelerator
You shouldn't be able to press down the accelerator pedal
and the engine doesn't rev... this means it needs adjustment
at the carburetor end....

I dont quite understand what you're saying, did the accelerator pedal fall out of the hinge? or did the linkage somehow fail? Or do you mean it
failed somewhere else down the line?
I have a nylock nut on the bolt that holds the pedal in the hinge. The other parts seem pretty foolproof.
u got it, with it falling out of the hinge...
can u explain your nylock nut deal?
make up abit of rod and put a thread on each end and bolt it one!! or if worse comes to worse drill a hole in each end and use split pins!!

yeah just get a bolt with the right shank length and put a nylock nut on the end. Piece of piss. Its a 6mm shank from what I remember
