close ratio GB

Hi

Iam am currently looking a getting an gb reconditioned. Presently talking to my mechanic who will be building it he hes recomended i go for a 1.4:1 third gear.

Currently the car is used for short course racing and normally tops out at about 110 to 115 on long sweepers in the regular autocross track. I run 205/60r15 tires, and run a sinlge side plate L bug box. The engine revs to 6k and has best power 2400 to 5200 ish, but i don't mind a higher revs into a corner instead of changing up. the car is still daily driven (well for a few more months and normally driven to events on the highway) so keeping a stock 4th means on the high way it will still no over rev with a full clsoe ration box.

what are other ppls experince with close ratio box's? any recomendations or opinions?

Have a look at this site...it has a gear ratio calculator....

Good idea, keeping 4th and shortening 3rd!

4.125 R and P , if your only going to change 3rd gear go to to some thing like a 1.3 :1 with the std top.
