Can anyone tell me what the process would be to put early Type 3 drums on an IRS beetle (front and rear). I know the hub needs machining on the rear
by 15mm, but what about the bearings?

Why would you want to put early rim's on an irs beetle anyway ?
the rear drum's from t3's are only a real improvement over early drums ... not so much over later ones.
Unless you have some shit hot mag's for wide 5 rims ?

I have some EMPI 5 spokes that are polished and chromed that I want to put on. I have a John Sherman disk brake conversion for a link pin wide 5 drum
brake beetle. I want to know if I can put the link pin hub, on the IRS/ball joint stub axle. I think the diameters of the spindles are different, and
I might need different bearings etc.
The rears I'm pretty sure will fit with the hub machined down and the T3 backing plates.
I want the look of old, with the handling of an IRS. By raising the adjusters I can put some stock wheels on there and make the car look like a stock
cabrio too!

Dunno about the front's my guess would be that it aint that simple but i only have experience with early gear.

The rear T3 early drums and backing plates will bolt on an IRS rear end without any machining.
The fronts are a different deal. I dont think the T3 front backing plate will fit a Beetle stub axel.
You are talking ball joint Beetle front end?.
If so, you can run front drum brake stub axels and backing plates from a 70's 1300 Beetle and try and find some '66/'67 front drums
from a European Bug, they are 5 stud and use the same bearings as 4 stud drums or disc brakes.

You can fit 5 studs from a Type 3 along with the backing plates, if you use the early beetle rears you will find the snout on the drum is to short,
just use a rear axle grease seal runner as a spacer. The wide 5 drums for ball joint are pretty rare in Oz, you will need the stub axle backing plates
etc. Boris has them on his drag car so that he can use Daves BRMs.

I have a ball joint front end on my IRS chassis'd cabrio.
I have a Sherman disk brake kit that is for a link pin beetle, and is a direct replacement for a link pin drum brake setup.
T3 brakes are for the rear only.
My question really relates to putting the equivalent of beetle drums onto a ball join spindle. I think its just a matter of putting an undersize or
oversize bearings on the hub/drum(or in my case Sherman disk brake kit).
Are those BRM's originals Dave? I'm actually thinking of putting BRM's on this car, which are wide 5 too!
