Were does everyone put there temp senders?
Mine used to be on the oil pressure attachment (by previous owner) but doesn't get the oil flow in this area to measure effectively.
It's a VDO 150 degree.

i use a vdo dipstick sender it works fine
tapped into the case or into the sump plate.

Mine barely made the needle move when it was on the pressure attachment. It definately was working b/c when i broke it and pluged it in it was reading
150 degrees on the gauge (concerning initially!!!) even when only ignition on and engine not running.
If people could post pictures that would be great to give me a better idea about the exact position.
This dip stick temp sender sounds interesting Barls and pics mate???

The dipstick sender has been the Best Way to measure the oil temperature - as the dipstick is in the oil....
It looks like a dipstick with an attachment on the end with a wire coming off it..... VDO Make them....
Mine is in the sump plate.... instead of a sump plug....
neat.... I hadn't seen one before....
Its now in a CB Performance Maxi filter sump....

Ok, the dipstick looks good!!!
I did have a look on the VDO online catalogue last night after u mentioned it and i saw it there too. Great idea.... just what i'm looking
for!!!!!
Thanks guys much appreciated.
Marty
PS 68AutoBug the website looks good!!!!!
Make sure the dipstick sender is set longer* than your normal dipstick, because the sump oil level drops once the engine is running and will therefore
give an inaccurate reading.
They are adjustable, (but not too long)
I think Hellbug used to sell a modified pressure relief screw (the big flathead screw/bolt under the engine some engines have 1, dual relief have 2)-
centre was drilled and tapped to the appropriate thread for a screw in sender. I used this successsfully in my type 3 when it was on the road...once
upon a time. :-( It would not be hard to make your own.
The Kombi has a VDO dipstick sender which seems to always let me know when things are getting a bit too warm back there on long trips.
