got a pair of those headlights from the stand next 2 classic vdub @ nats, asked if they will fit my bug, dude said they would, but they r 1/2 inch 2 small so they wont go in properly, anyone got any ideas how 2 fix this?? and has anyone eles discovered this problem?
are they sealed beam h4
I didn't see any headlamps for sale, but I do have headlamps for a 1303S super , these head lamps actually screw to the little brackets in the
headlamp bucket itself...
they don't attach to the chrome Rim..
....
the 1303S chrome rim was chromed plastic and only had the attaching hole at the bottom.... they usually have a small hole in the side so that when
fitted to Kombis, the water can drain out...
these may be the headlamps You bought....
I have fitted these type of headlamps to Beetles and type 3s over the years using the screws in the headlamp Rim....
Nothing is impossible..... just a lot darn harder.....

yes sealed beam h4's lemme guess will only work 4 early models?
Dont think so
I have H4 in my 1975 L bug.
Yes they sit "inside" the chrome rim. Havent pulled it apart to see "why" they sit like that.
By the way - get them in. The lights are HEAPS better!!
I dont have much time at the moment to go pulling them apart - but IF i can find some i will let ya know.
OK - you can see here how the H4 sits a 1/4" in the centre of the rim.
Is this how yours will sit???

i run them on my L bug. up the top there are two metal tabs which are bent backwards. heat these up with a small bloworch or similar and then slowly bend these foward. be carefull as they may snap if you hand't heated them up enough.
will fiddle with them when i have time, thanks 4 pic, what happens 2 the gap around em and how do u get em 2 saty still? screw in the back or something?
also mine go in way further, and have a smooth edge with a lip @ the front like the normal glass part
Have You got a Pic 1stCarBug of the lamps..?
that You bought...
I have Hella H4s in My 68 Beetle.....
but I have them mounted to the screws in the chromed rim....
I can't remember if I had to drill any extra holes etc....
the lamps should have a round bracket or cage with bolt holes in it for screwing to the small right angle brackets in the headlamp bucket....
Have a look in a 1303S [L] Beetle or 1976 Beetle - they both had headlamps NOT attached to the chromed rim...

they screw in to the tabs (2 at the top and one at the bottom. they are suspsended in the bucket and the chrome ring just goes over the top. they are seperate to each to each other on my car.
