pics will be posted soon, but to get the stimuli goin...
alright. hi all! have a few questions as i rewire my buggy this arvo.
#1. there is a cable running into the rh rear (the side facing me when im behind the buggy) of the fan housing four wires i think. what the f are they
for?
#2. the alternator has 3 wires coming off the top. what does what? there are two thickish wires, one red one black, mounted side by side at the the
pulley end of the alternator. the 3rd wire is a black wire running from the other end of the alternator, not as thick as the other two. im guessin one
positive for red and two negatives for black. all these wires run to a black voltage regulator (?) mounted under the buggy.
#3. the voltage regulator has one other thick wire running to it from the starter motor, a red positive wire. where do i run my positive power wire
going into the cabin from? the wire chart says voltage reg but surely it doesnt make a difference if i run it from the positive starter side
either..
pics to follow soon...
shown here are the two wires mounted side by side on the alternator, im guessin negative and positive
here is the top view of the alternator. as the other end from the pulley a single black wire can be seen. what and why?
now here is the voltage regualtor (im assumin). all 3 wires from the alternator are on the left side, the single postive wire from the starter on the right side. where do i attach my power wire for the cabin? is it fine to just run it off the positive terminal on the starter?
and from behind. i think ther was a terminal on the top right of this pic of the regulator, but it looks as if it or something has snapped off... buggers me!
last thing that is stuffing me, this cable going into the fan housing... cable is running from top left of pic to the fan housing, has 3 or 4 wires in it... any suggestions what it does?
bump and a hump for the first day of the month!:blush
cough*HELP!*cough :P:P:P:P its more important i find out what the wires going to the fan housing are... anyone?
amigos!?
1st : You have a generator not an alternator....
2nd: don't run the engine with that great big hole in the fan housing
as all Your cooling air will come out of that hole and the engine will Seize....
all holes in the Fan shroud or housing have to blocked off...
same as You can't have water leaks in a water cooled car...
I'll see if someone else can answer Your questions about the generator and voltage regulator....
You take Your power from the voltage regulator...
otherwise You would be getting 14v if taken from the generator..
The Red + wire on the generator goes to the Voltage regulator... Another thick wire goes to the Battery....
I've rewired My beetle so I can't help with the wires..
plus I have an alternator....
Best to take Your power from the battery..+

hey hey! thankyou lee! generator it is! you dont know what that cable of wires running into the fan housing is? still got me buggered...
yeah was figuring that whole needs to be blocked up, thanks...
the single lead that comes off the other side of the voltage reg then runs to the positive side of the starter is effectively comin off the battery,
so ill take power from the starter...
thanks for your help!
You can pick up fan housings very cheaply at swap meets etc
as there is a surplus of them...
the fan may rub on the fan housing as that hole looks nasty..
the housing may be twisted...
I have now read where this is going into a buggy....
It is unusual to take power from the starter motor,
but no reason why You can't.... its attached to a heavy battery cable...
the single black lead screwed onto the rear of the generator is just
another earth lead that would have been connected to the body of the car...
I do the same thing...
Lee
there is the tail lamps/blinkers/stop lamp wires going the engine bay..
there is also the ignition wire that goes to the coil + and the
electromagnetic fuel cutoff solenoid on the carburetor.... plus
the automatic choke... all from the one wire....
I think one wire goes to the coil... then another wire comes
off the coil & goes to the carburetor cutoff solenoid & auto
choke.....
if its a long wire with 3 terminals... then it goes to all 3 things....
the wire from the distributor should go to the coil - negative terminal.. --
I hope this helps
Lee
thanks a lot again lee... all wires that should be goin to the engine and the rear end are already there, so stuffs me what they are for, will have to pull it all apart to be sure! thanks for all the help ol'mate! :beer:beer
