rust

ok a quick one: what's the very best method of repairing rust in the lower part of an early decklid, down under the handle where the two seperate pieces (rear brace and outer skin) and spot welded together? The rust is not that bad but I want to make sure that it never comes back. At this stage my two options are 1) take to it with the die grinder till I remove all traces of rust then fill the holes with my mig. 2) cut out a larger section of pannel and make up a piece of steel to replace it. So what do you think? whats the best option?

Depends on how big the holes are after you take it back ....

I would cut out the rust first then decide if the holes can be filled with the mig or not:) .

And always remember to use copius quantities of rust converter.

As above but with mine I poured paint in to the crevis to fully coat the parts.
Then I poured more paint in to fully cover all surfaces, and repeated it again till it looked like it had been dipped in paint.

Another option is to turn it into a baja :) and replace all rusty bits with fiberglass :)

(btw to baja an early bug would be a crime against humanity :) )
