1614 to 1300
VolksFolks - April 5th, 2005 at 08:22 PM

I have been asked a question but i dont know the answer, they have a 1300 motor, and also have a 1641 kit, they would like to fit the 1641 pistons to the 1300 case/heads, does the case need work, does the studs need changing, and does the head need machining, if so what sorta costs are involved.

Thanks Andy

no yes sort of ....... :jesus

OK... the case doesnt
Yes - the studs do
No - i dont think the heads do BUT the valves are a different sive to a 1600 motor so just be aware.
Dunno what diff it makes.
The late 1300 twin port with small valves sreamed so i cant answer

I guess its half an answer

I dont think the actual 1300 heads will slip onto the 1641 cylinders, that only works going from 1600-1641

The 1300 case will fit the 1641 barrells, the head studs are fine, but the cylinder heads will need to me machined to fit the bigger barrells, and then you will need to work out your compression ratio, and run the correct thickness barrell shims.
If you are doing this to an old 1300 engine, it would pay to rebuild the whole engine, because the 1641 barrells will kill the poor old 1300 bottom end very soon.

I was under the impression that a 1300 bottem end was the same as a 1600 and better to build up to 1600/1641/1716 etc because the bottem end would have had a less stressful life than a 1600?

Me too, will take the risk i reckon..

Yeah but new rings and the right comp means more stress for a 200,000km bottom end... BOOOOM! Seen it happen plenty...

I think it also more refers to the late dual port 1300's - the 1974 on ones

pretty sure they were dual relief etc etc just 1300

If your case number starts AB then you will have a 1300 Twin port which will happily accept 1641 or 1600 Barrels and Pistons without maching. If your engine number has no prefix and is just a number then you have a 1965/67 1300 which is basically a bigger bore 40hp engine which doesnt readily accept 1600/1641 B+P's

Cheers

Steve,
An "F" prefix 1300 case will accept 1641 barrells with out machining.
They are single relief cases and most have done lots of miles, if you don't freshen up the bottom end it will not last.
