electric fuel pump
tdegens - April 5th, 2005 at 08:37 PM

Can an electric fuel pump be used with a carburetor fuel system? Motor had fuel injection and thus no mechanical fuel pump . I Want to see how it goes with the dellortos. Has anybody got a set of dellorto t4 manifolds lying around that they want to part with?

Fuel regulator may need changing though

I think you'll find the EFI pumps pump at a far higher pressure than carbs like

How is the fuel regulator changed or can it be adjusted?

I would think You would need to buy another fuel pressure regulator to get the flow & Low pressure You need for the carburetors needle & seats.....

Usually Fuel Injection used very high pressure electric fuel pumps.... Much too high for carburetors to handle....

I'm not sure if this would work with a HP fuel pump, but it regulates the pressure to where you want it for carbs:

EFI pumps are designed for continuous circulation of fuel at high pressures (40-50psi) while carbs need 3 or 4psi etc etc ... just buy the proper low-pressure pump

yep jsut runnning a low pressure pump (4 to 6 psi) with mine and also a pressure regulator to keep a constant pressure, and fine tune it. I also picked upa little device that hooks up near your coil, it feeds power form the +ve side of teh coil to the pump, and has a wire hooked up to the -ve side, as long as the -ve side is sending out pulses quicker than a set amount, it has the relay open and the electric pumnp going, but as soon as the engine is switched off or stalls the pulses stop and so does the pump.

Did you intend to use the EFI pump, or just replace it with a LP fuel pump. (I may have totally misunderstood you Q)

I think He wanted to know whether he could use the EFI Pump....
I don't think He can either, as the EFI used very high pressures compared to the pressure used with Carburetors...

I have a low pressure electric pump & that was a pic of MY holley fuel pressure regulator.....
You don't want to exceed the pressure of a mechanical pump
and wear out Your carbies Needle & seat....

Bwaaahahahahahahaha......umm I dun think the needle and seat would ever "wear out" dude.

Coz at the deliver pressure of an unregulated EFI pump the needle and seat would never "seat" hence no wear............

Sorry mate, i could not hold that one back!!! LMAOE:kiss

Is this guy actually going to use an old EFI pump or a plain electric fuel pump????
Doesnt seem to have said.

If its a plain old low pressure electric pump then go right ahead but as posted previously, go the extra couple of yards and fit a pressure regulator as well.

If its an EFI pump then forget it unless you want to buggerise around with a "pump around" tee piece system.

pffttt. Wank.

Thanks guys just going to use the fuel injection system as is. Worked out how to put it all back together. so should be sweet.
