hi all
well i got my 54 oval n its about time to update da frontend and just wondering how many rubles it will set me back for an adjustable beam wif new
link n kingpins.
i want to put in a 60's beam as i hear its bigger (T/F) n i know i'll needa new steering box n arm to suit..
any ideas tech ppl..
also keen, also to narrow?....
any ideas ppl?
I'll guess price parts:
adjusters $100 + labour to cut and weld in adjuster
steering box $300
King & linkpins $150 + labour to ream & fit
Bushings, seals etc $50
Tie rod ends $50??
Steering damper $40
Shocks $200
+ labour to fit the other stuff as well
If you want to narrow it, its going to get more expensive and difficult because you have to also shorten the tie rods, shorten the torsion leaves,
clearance the body (depending on how narrow you want to go).
I'd budget around $1000 or more (without narrowing) when everything is said and done. That is if you already have a beam.

when you buy a beam make friggin sure that it is straight... as i found out the hardway
New beams with adjusters and narrowing are available.... check out sponsors such as cip1 or classic vw
Well, heres what I did
Had a 60s beam with good bearings/leaves/arms (you could pic up a used one cheap)
Bought adjusters - $15 a pop from Cip1
Welded in adjusters - $0
Bought rebuilt K+L spindles from Custom Offroad - $220 plus core
Regreased and recycled old tie-rod ends - $0
Reused old shocks - $0
Reused old steering box - (you could pic a second handy for about $40)
It can be done relatively cheaply re-using old parts which are still servicable.
Someone was selling a 60s beam in the trading area wernt they?
Or you could go all new and spend big bucks
I'm selling some new 2 1/2" drop CB spindles.
no increase in width.
$400.
check my thread.
