Ok, I need help...and not the sort i get from my gp with pills...
I am fixing up edith, my ride...
she has some nice wheels, but their looking real dull...so I wanna clean them...u know make them nice and shiny again.
What do i use??
I'd rather know what all the options are before i start.
So what products have u used and found to be good...not the bad...just the good...ok...
And no, i am not afraid to do it all myself...so long as it's not gonna take me a week on each wheel...
Also, if something is likely to occur, and panic me, let me know....like oh yeah...the wheels go balck when u put product on, but don't worry, they
come up good after 10 minutes...
k...
alrite, now that is sorted...pls give as much advice as u can on what u used to clean ur wheels...
Are they Steel rims or Alloy?
wait...gonna do a magnetic check...
alloy of some type i guess...magnet not sticking...
how good do you want them to shine ?a bit or like chrome cause it makes a difference and how much time can you devote to polishing them cause to get them real shineeeeee takes hours each
have time.....just need advice...so i don't stuff it up b4 i even start
I got some good tips from a program on discovery on the weekend.
Use an angle grinder with a stiff brish on it to get rid of the old clear coat.
Then use a polishing wheel + some C3(4)(?) cutting compound on it.
Polish for a good while.
Clean off compound when you have the finish you want.
Then seal with some clear coat again.
This guy polished up some alloys pretty darn good, mirror like, using this method.
I would have done mine like that had I know about it.
kewl...thanks for that gibbo...
if there alloy wheels or ali i use ali-brite or alkleen acid to clean them..
(VERY toxic and no good for humans must follow safety directions)
a bit hazardous but works a treat on alloy, all ya do is dilute it wif water spray on, rub lightly wif a soft brush within a min or so hose off and
presto like brand new..
i also use VHD4000, another heavy duty cleaner but not as toxic as the alkleen n itl clean really hard to get crap off wheels etc..
oh yeah not to good on paint but..
get some 1200 wet n dry and use wet with a touch of washing up deterg in it use it to get all the marks out and the clear off then use 1500 then 2000 then soapy steel wool fine grade then alushine then baby powder then they will shine like you wont believe but it will take hours for each wheel and you will be filthy dirty -----1 more thing make certain you have a good supply of your fav beverage cause its thirsty work
It takes a long time to do it.....
as it costs a LOT to have it done professionally....
there is NO easy way..... it has to be done by hand....
or polishing with a buffer.... etc....
But it takes a LONG LONG time to finish......
Your alloy wheels may not have a coating of clear paint....
Rub with wet & dry to see if there is a coat of paint or not...
Best of Luck...

Go the acid wash first if they have no clear coat paint. you can get a varity from autobahn then get some autosol and a heap of rags and start polishing. As they say it wont happen overnight but it will happen.
