despite previous excited report about how well the kombi was going after being tuned...this is my problem...
engine was "misfiring/backfiring" on acceleration. had the ignition coil changed and the regular fluid changes for a service(engine/gear oil).
When i got her back the idle was higher and she moved out of gears much better...but at the high end rpm of each gear starts to "miss", no classic
backfire but momentarily loses power then catches up. will also do this when going up a hill as rpm drooping prior to down shifting. Sits at idle
and hums along with no misses. any thoughts, going back to stokers on thursday for some other stuff and hoping to have something to suggest or
understand...would something like changing spark plugs be a simple start. The bus definately is "stronger" in general up hills and from rest, so
the tune up has done plenty of good, but not good enough...thanks
:kiss
Did you get the fuel filter changed?
Did you get the 1800 installed? (joke)
Pretty hard to tell without driving it.
no didnt change the fuel filter but it looks ok, but easy enough to do i have a box of them, thanks, i also had the points cleaned
The trouble with fuel filters is that they can look okay, but not. Not an expensive item to change.
When getting a motor to run to its optimum level for its condition, you have to give it all the chance you can.
New points and condensor, clean spark plugs will eliminate them as a source of any misfire.
To remove all doubt from the electrical system, new cap, rotor button, leads and plugs will leave you with only the coil or distributor. They don't
usually just stop working, they degrade over time.
Fuel systems comprise of the tank, pump, lines, filter, needle& seat, float, mixture screws, jets. The filter is the easiest to replace.
Finally the motor may be shagged and the quickest way to see if any cylinders are being lazy is a compression test. A burnt valve will give a sluggish
motor.
might be running way to rich and wetting the plugs- has your carb been adjusted/tuned?
