Twin Carbies Big Difference?
Oppressa - February 14th, 2003 at 09:36 PM

Last year I bought an 1835cc engine for my '71 bug with a (I think) 43 Webber Kit. Now that the engine is worn in I'm thinking of going to twins. I've been told that economy and performance will increase. It may be tought, but can someone give me some idea as to how much of a power increase I can expect?

You need to rebuild the 1835?

Not too sure what you mean by a Weber 43. - this is a single carb right?
Webers come in IDF 36,40,44,48's in singles and duals and DFEV 32/36 Progressive singles.
Yeah there are 1000's of others IDA, DCNF, DCN but those 2 are the most common.
There are twin single barrels (Kadrons, Weber ICT's and Dellorto FRD's) and there are twin 2 barrels (Weber IDF, IDA and Dellorto DRLA)

IF and that word is very important, they are tuned right you will get a decent performance, economy and drivability increase.
How much - that is hard to say. Changing to twin 2 barrels is a step past noticeable.
I went 1600, 1600 & progressive, 1776 & progressive, 1776 & IDF36's and every step you got out of the car and went - OK that made a difference.
Admittedly all the steps were not smooth transactions.

Yeah, sorry dude I suck with old engines. Surprisingly I know more about super-car engines LOL

Anyway, I'll get a photo with my camera and upload it next week.
