fitting window scrapers
lauzboy - April 16th, 2005 at 01:18 AM

the outer scrapers on my bug are ripped to the BS

got new ones but have not a single clue on how to remove the old ones and install the new

does anyone have a website link or can post FULL directions on this process. i hear its quite a tedious task in the order of 3hrs per door

also besides the outer scrapers, is there anything else i need/should do while im at it?

thanks!!

Outer scrapers are a terrible job.....
I have wiped all memory of it out of My mind....
They don't seem to fit in well....
Bloody nightmare.... easy to wreck them too...

stick your hand up inside the door and pop them out of the door... [i think] they just pop out....
then there are the bailey channel clips to get out too...
they are the bits that hold the bailey channel and the outer scraper on the vertical part... Not sure whether you knock them up or down.... to get them out....

I hope someone else can give you a step by step way to do them....
Its twice as hard to put the new ones in.....
and they bend very easily.... aluminium,,,,

Where the actual glass scrapers go in the door.....
Firstly cut off the bottom edge of rubber hanging down into the door... as this rubber has an edge on it and the edge catches on the glass and pulls the scraper out first time You wind the glass up.....
I also glued the inner & outer scrapers where they clip in where the glass coles out of the door....
Brazillian Clips can break off too... very fragile...

Best of Luck....

to post a full description of replacing scrapers both inner and outer at the same time would require a book the size of the encyclopedia britannica just to contain the swearing it requires.this is the biggest bastard, shit, mongrel job you can contemplate. take it somewhere and pay whatever they ask and be forever grateful .

Go to "The Doors" section on this page (can't seem to post a direct link) and there is a lot of valuable info:
