Blue slip problem with repowered beetle
StenGuns - April 16th, 2005 at 06:12 PM

I have been told today that the 67 beetle that I bought in January (and have been working on and spending money on) will not get a blue slip unless I upgrade the brakes to disc..
It has been repowered with a 1600.. still got drums all round..

Farrk.. Don't tell me I have to spend more before roadworthy!

Anyone know the NSW rules about this?

Easy go to another inspection station and tell them its a 1300, if they ask!

or put your 1600 pistons and cylinders on 1300 bottom end

StenGuns - April 16th, 2005 at 06:42 PM

I'm over it.. farken

rules are if 1600 then need disc up front.

Just saying... them the rules

HotRodMatt - April 16th, 2005 at 06:55 PM

Is 67 still K&L or Ball Joint?

Think I have a complete disc to disc front end.

K&L

HotRodMatt - April 16th, 2005 at 07:00 PM

I'll find out which it is tomorrow... But it think it was from a 68 so it might be a Ball Joint. Will check anyway.

Thats great Matt.. Whats involved in fitting.. I have an adjustable beam to fit as well so could do it off the car and then swap the beam..

Che Castro - April 16th, 2005 at 07:03 PM

yep, if the capacity is over 15% of factory then you need an eng. certificate in NSW

I still like my idea!:thumb

baybuscamperkid - April 16th, 2005 at 07:46 PM

yeah, what che said, unless you can prove that the beetle came out with the same mechanical specs as yours and with an engine within 15% (10% if your in Victoria) of the 1600's power you are in trouble. easy option is to get it registered with a 1300 then swap over once rwc has expired

sax - April 16th, 2005 at 07:54 PM

Just go to somebody else, the average blue slip drone wouldnt know shit
about beetle engines. Tell em its a 1300 if they ask.

I dont understand their problem, you've increased power from three fifths of bugger all to four fifths.

Mate.. I love your idea.. Seeing I am going to stick this adjustable beam in though, I might as well do the farken lot all in one.. That is if I decide to do it at all.. I am so over Type 1's.. They give me the shits.. Considering what is available and drivable for 5-6 g's.. Who would bother to do one up?.. Might as well just pick off the ones that someone else has spent time and money on.. Hey, do you want to pickup a 67 that is nearly ready for blueslip??

I have spent the day listening, pricing and weighing up the options of V6 3.8, v's quadcam, v's EJ2.2 in my Type 2's.. Then I come home to the eternal beetle stuck in my driveaway! Fark me!

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi_dl1.html

check here SG

Vehicle Standards Information Sheet No.6 was the shhet/regulation applicable to my '56 mods. I can't seem to be able to track them down at the moment, but I can fax them if need be.

StenGuns - April 16th, 2005 at 09:04 PM

Mate.. you definately need another one.. Then you can blue slip them together.. As a bonus, you can have the remainder of the 66 sitting at Millers in Tempe!!
