i just had the rear end change and had a wheel aligment cause it was shaking but it still does can someone let me know how do i tighten the steering box on a lbug 74 model
ahh the dreaded "super shimmies"
Firstly the access to the steering box is a cover plate just below the fuel tank on the driver side. You will see a plate about 100 mm in diameter.
Take all the covers off and you will see it.
But..............
unfortuneately there is a fair bit you "may" need to do. Once you have solved it your car will be amazing.
There are a lot of rubber bushes in a super front end and these need to be changed to urethene.
Another culprit is the universal from the steering shaft to the steering box.
The following articles from Super Beetles Only percifically deal with the problem
read them and ask me more questions.
Have had the shakes bad and now my cars are a dream to drive!

buy urethane bushes for the front end and check your lower ball joint and tie rod ends ,do all the bushes and your worries will be solved, mine is fantastic to drive now,one more thing what pressure do you run in the front tyres and are they stock?
yes blue is right once set up, you will never go back to the ancient torsion beam front end. BUT it needs to be set up properly.
hey blue how long do your inner arm bushes last? iam going througha set every 3 years at present, (thats with khanacross and similar bumpy racing).
check all 6 bushes
6 ball joints in teh steering
universal joint in steering
steering box
shocks and springs
they all might be slightly warn or one may be very warn...........
and balance your tyres
"hey blue how long do your inner arm bushes last?" - dont go there :jesus (joke!)
I havent had "one"super for 3 years lately :cry
