Pricing for Engine Valve Work
phantom - April 20th, 2005 at 02:07 PM

Advice....I've just found out that my 1600 bug engine is only running basically on two cylinders......there is no compression on cylinders 3 and 4. This apparently therefore means a valve job.

For the work, start to finish, from when I drive the car in, until I drive it out (engine removal, work on it, engine install, etc), I received a quote of about $500, as long as there are no unforseen problems, which they don't believe will happen. I believe there is a few days in there, start to finish.

Is this an OK price?

If they stick to it! about 4years back, $300 to remove and install the donk was about the going rate!, so to strip tinware, carbs exhaust, pull heads, remove valves, replace fucked ones, etc etc etc etc (never that simple!) i rekon $500 is an underestimate...just my thoughts! good luck;)

yeah - not out of the park.

more than a days work there.
Pull motor
Carb off
manifold off
tin off
exhaust off - hope no studs break
valves replaced

then reverse

Put it this way.
I wont be offering to do it for that money!

Yeah mate, real funny. I just pulled the exhaust from my 1800 bus, and guess what I did? Hmmm, the things we learn (gotta learn somehow though hey!) ;) Cheers dudes!

Would be a good time to pretty up the tin ware if it's not already.

Just make sure they put all the tin back... you don't want any colling issues after that.
